App doensn't play a sound when receiving a message/ notification

Apple smartphone/tablet

  • For IOS devices (iPhone / iPad), this could be due to the ‘do not disturb’ function (if enabled).
    • More information can be found via this support link from Apple: https://support.apple.com/nl-nl/HT204321.
  • If this is not the case for you, you could also turn the mySmartControl notifications into ‘critical notifications’ in your smartphone settings.
    • More information on this can be found at this support link from Apple: https://support.apple.com/nl-nl/108781
  • If ‘critical notifications’ are selected and notifications still do not arrive, this could be due to the focus mode of your iPhone or iPad.

If you have a Samsung smartphone, you can follow the guide below to see if this solves your problem. The steps in this guide are entirely at your own risk.

There are Samsung smartphones that do not always allow choosing push notification sounds from third-party apps. This is a workaround that an end-user can perform on their Samsung smartphone at their own risk. However, after following these steps, the mySmartControl push notification sounds can be set/selected in the mySmartControl app on the Samsung smartphone.

  • Open the Samsung My Files app
  • In the My Files app, go to the folder Audio
  • In the Audio folder, select the sounds default.mp3, blank.mp3 and sound1.mp3 to sound5.mp3
  • Select Copy to copy these sound files to the smartphone's memory
  • In the My Files app, go to Device storage
  • Look directly under Device Storage (i.e. not in sub-folders) for the Notifications folder
  • Is there no Notifications folder? Create one under Device Storage (Create folder)
  • Go to the Notifications folder
  • Paste (Copy here) the copied sound files into the Notifications folder
  • Close the My Files app
  • Open the mySmartControl app and go to Settings/Sounds. Here you should now be able to select
  • the mySmartControl sounds.

mySmartControl sounds:

default.mp3 = Echo tone
blank.mp3 = <no sound>
sound1.mp3 = Harp
sound2.mp3 = Fading tones
sound3.mp3 = Beeb beep... beep beep
sound4.mp3 = Short tone
sound5.mp3 = Alarm siren
